I am a native Oregonian and recently moved back to the Portland area. I have a lifetime of interest in design and art. My work is mixed media collage which features nature or abstract art, using organic and geometric shapes. I frequently use bits of nature in my pieces — leaves, grasses, bark — within the layers. I use handmade and transparent papers. I delight in discovering the interrelationship between the pattern, texture, design, colors, shapes and layers. Techniques include: monoprinting, acrylic and watercolor painting, and using all types of adhesives in laying down papers and other ephemera.
My work is award-winning and is accepted in juried shows. I am a member of Artists in Action in Salem, and Keizer Art Association. Three of my works are hung in the Salem Health Foundation for the Salem Health New Patient Tower wing. I also won second place at the Art Annual at the Oregon State Fair. Over the years, I have participated in Art Fairs throughout Oregon, including Lake Oswego Festival, Westminster Creativity Art Fair, Southminster Fine Arts Fair, Carlton Walk in the Park, Bend Art Fair, and Sisters Festival.
I have taken all manner of art classes throughout my life — watercolor, colored pencil, calligraphy, acrylics, encaustics, and many collage and mixed media classes. My work background includes working in local government, teaching college, owning a database development company and producing safety training materials. Most recently, as a book publisher, I owned my own small press company featuring books on women’s issues. Currently in semi-retirement, I am pursuing creating art full time and exploring where it leads.
